SAN ANGELO — At 9:30 a.m. Sunday the city said the boil water advisory was lifted.

Early Saturday the city reported water main breaks that led to a boil water advisory were repaired.

City crews flushed the system by dumping water from hydrants in the impacted areas. Once flushing of the system is done, the city began testing the water for contaminants.

Sunday morning the city announced it had received the all clear from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) after those tests were complete.

"The public water system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of October 18, 2020, 9:30 a.m.," a statement from the city said.

At least four water mains broke Friday evening, which caused a drop in water pressure and the resulting boil water notice was issued shortly before 7 p.m. Friday.

The advisory impacted most of the incorporated city limits, including all customers inside Loop 306. Other areas are outside of the loop east of Howard Street, the O.C. Fisher Dam on the north side and customers outside the loop east of Foster Road on the south side, according to the release.

Fully affected neighborhoods included: ASU-College Hills, Belaire, Blackshear, Central, Downtown, Ft. Concho, Ft. Concho East, Glenmore, Goodfellow Air Force Base, Lake View, Paul Ann, Reagan, Rio Vista, Rio Vista, Riverside, Santa Rita, Sunset and Vista Del Arroyo.

The partially affected neighborhoods included Angelo Heights, Bluffs, Bonham and Country Club. Southland is just outside of the area. Lake Nasworthy and the airport are not affected.

This is the second boil water notice for the city since the beginning of September. An advisory was issued Sept. 8 for southwest San Angelo, including Bentwood and Lake Nasworthy after a break in the area resulted in low water pressure.
